The People Power Party’s Special Committee on the General Election White Paper held its final meeting at the National Assembly on the 14th, four months after the April 10 general election, and finalized the draft of the white paper. The 300-page draft white paper reportedly included the “Yongsan responsibility theory” that “the presidential office did not consult with the party to find a solution” regarding the “Lee Jong-seop-Hwang Sang-moo controversy” and the issue of increasing the number of medical school students, along with Representative Han Dong-hoon’s “Lee-Jo (Lee Jae-myung-Cho Kuk) judgment theory” and the reversal of proportional representation nominations as causes of the defeat. There are also predictions within the party that “if the final version describes the responsibility for the defeat in the general election as being centered on the presidential office or the party, it could become the seed of conflict between Yoon and Han.” Chairman Cho Jeong-hoon said, “The common opinion of the committee members is that the defeat in the general election was not due to a specific person or function, but rather had complex causes.”

A White Paper Special Committee official said in a phone call that day, “We pointed out the problem of lack of proper communication between the ruling and opposition parties over current issues during the general election,” and “It includes the content of the conflicts that arose as the presidential office and the party took sides.” The white paper was written on seven topics, including ruling and opposition party relations, proportional representation nominations, lack of election support from the Yeouido Institute, election strategies, publicity, pledges, and organizational evaluation. It is said that the controversy over Representative Han ignoring Ms. Kim Gun-hee’s text messages in January, which became known during the party convention, was also included as a cause of the loss. Chairman Cho said, “We devoted sufficient and appropriate space (to the text message controversy).”

It was reported that the results of a survey asking about responsibility for the defeat in the general election showed that there were more responses saying that “responsibility for the defeat in the general election lies with the Office of the President.” The white paper will be published in book form after approval by the Supreme Council.

On this day, Representative Han held a closed-door Supreme Council meeting and recommended former Policy Committee Chairman Yoo Eui-dong, who is a three-term member, as the new head of the party’s think tank, the Yeouido Research Institute. Former Party Audit Committee Chairman Shin Eui-jin was appointed as the new party ethics committee chairman, and former Nomination Management Committee member Yoo Il-joon was appointed as the new party audit committee chairman. Former Emergency Response Committee member Jang Seo-jeong was appointed as the head of the public relations headquarters.
