Drainage works inaugurated in Xochimilco; “they will no longer walk in sewage”: Batres

With an investment of 132 million pesosthe head of government Marti Batres led the delivery of drainage works in the village of Xicalhuacan, Xochimilcoto avoid sewage in the region.

As part of these works, the Mexico City Water System (Sacmex) built around 12 kilometers of pipelines for drainage and more than 400 manholes were dug, the president explained, highlighting a benefit for almost 40 thousand families.

“We have an investment of 132 million pesos that will benefit almost 40 thousand families in this region,” he said.

At the delivery ceremony, the capital’s president described the project as a work with social and technical complexitiesamong other.

The above, he explained, was due to the flooding with black water which affected habitability in the area, the absence of nearby works with environmental impact and the contamination of canals due to the runoff of sewage.

“Doing these works has three benefits. It improves the quality of life of the people, who no longer have to walk through sewage; it allows them to work directly for the regularization of their lots; and we help to take care of the sustainability of the city, because we protect the canals of Xochimilco,” he explained.

In his participation, the general coordinator of Sacmex, Rafael Carmona He highlighted the construction of sewers, with 1,778 home discharge connections, 296 in addition to those scheduled in the first two censuses of the work.

For the project, high-density corrugated polyethylene pipe was installed, excavations were filled with compacted tepetate, and manholes were built for pipes measuring 30 to 61 meters in diameter, he explained.

“This work had a cost of 62 million 270 thousand pesosfurther 70 million for the construction of the pumping plant which is located on the edge of Nuevo León Street, which will allow the wastewater from all of its houses to be collected and sent by pumping through a pressurized pipe,” he explained.
