Against the backdrop of the explosion in talks with Lebanon on the maritime border agreement in the north of the country, a senior political official says: “Prime Minister Yair Lapid rejects Lebanon’s comments to the agreement. The State of Israel accepted Lebanon’s comments to the draft agreement.”

As I recall, today (Thursday) at 16:30 the political-security cabinet is supposed to meet in order to discuss the agreement and approve it, this against the background of criticism from the opposition.

According to the same senior political official: “Prime Minister Yair Lapid was informed of the details of the new substantial changes that Lebanon is seeking to make in the agreement, and ordered the negotiating team to reject them.”

The new comments of the Lebanese government include, among other things, a lack of agreement to transfer to Israel compensation for the gas royalties of the Kana reservoir, and the issue of determining the maritime border in an official and binding manner.

“We will not compromise on security and economic interests”

“Prime Minister Lapid made it clear that Israel will not compromise its security and economic interests in any way, even if it means that there will be no agreement soon.”

The senior official added: “Israel will produce gas from the Harish rig as soon as this becomes possible. If Hezbollah or anyone else tries to damage the Harish rig or threaten us – the negotiations on the sea line will stop immediately and Hassan Nasrallah will have to explain to the citizens of Lebanon why they do not have a gas rig and an economic future .”
