The missing piece was quickly spotted by another pilot preparing for take off. The veteran pilot alerted the control tower at Oakland County International Airport to the malfunction and then sprung into action to offer life-saving guidance to the panicked young flight attendant. The more experienced pilot, Chris Yates, contacted the fire and quickly calmed her down when he heard her voice shaking.

“Taylor, this is Chris. My daughter’s name is Taylor and I taught her to fly! We’re going to be fine, baby,” Yates said into the walkie-talkie. He calmly instructed the fire how to land the plane and avoid disaster. The dramatic landing video shows the fire landing the plane without much damage, after being told to circle the airport and make a “low landing”.

“The nose is going to go down, you’re fine, you’re fine,” Yates said as the fire plane touched down. “Talk to me. Good girl, I’m proud of you!”. Hash told Fox 2 that the way Yates avoided sounding “official with the airport language” reassured her. The two plan to take a plane trip to Vegas at the end of April, according to the local TV station. “Someone with six hours solo and 57 total flight hours doesn’t handle a plane like that,” Yates said, “I hope all the airlines are paying attention to this girl now.”
