He won in the second play-off over Sampson Zheng and Aaron Wilkin after the three golfers collected the same score: 268 strokes or 16 under par.
Lewton from England was actually close to becoming champion without going through the play-off. Before entering the 18th hole, he was already two strokes ahead after finishing his game on the 17th hole.
However, on the last hole Lewton had to make a double bogey, forcing him to fight longer, even though it eventually paid off.
“This win means a lot to me. I never thought I would be a champion. Thank you Damai Indah Golf. The condition of the course is very good, still the same as ten years ago. All the players feel happy playing here. Thank you to the sponsors, thank you to everyone who came to watch this match,” Lewton said after the match.
In 2014, when Damai Indah Golf – PIK Course hosted the Indonesia Open for the last time, Lewton was ranked 64th.
His success in becoming the champion in this tournament with a total prize of 500 thousand US dollars also ended his wait after having to be satisfied with the runner-up position for two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023.
“Finally I became the champion, not the runner-up anymore,” Lewton added. He played consistently for four consecutive days by shooting shots of 67, 67, 66, and 68. As the champion he received a trophy and a cash prize of 90 thousand US dollars.
