The election to elect the 15th President of the country was held on Monday (July 18). The votes cast in this election are being counted today.
In the first round, the votes of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs were counted. In this, 540 MPs have voted in favor of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance candidate Thirelapathi Murmu, and 208 MPs have voted for Yashwant Sinha, the general candidate of opposition parties including the Congress.

The total value of votes of MPs in the Presidential election is 5,23,600. Of these, Thirelapathi Murmu got 3,78,000 votes and Yashwant Sinha got 1,45,600 votes.
While it was predicted that Thirelapathi Murmu would get 60% of the votes in this election, at the end of the first round, he got 72% of the votes.
