Rahul Dravid stepped down as India’s head coach after winning the T20 World Cup. He had already announced that he would not increase his responsibilities after the World Cup, nor would he sign a new contract.
Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has become the current coach of India. The new coach took charge and created his own setup. Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach. Abhishek Nair became the batting coach. Ryan Ten Deuskat has joined as the fielding coach.
As new assistant coaches were added, the old ones were dropped. Among them is Vikram Rathore. After leaving the national team, Dravid joined as the head coach of IPL team Rajasthan Royals. Dravid kept Rathore with him. India’s former batting coach has now joined Rajasthan in the same role. Rathore lost the responsibility of the national team after five years of service. He worked with Ravi Shastri before Dravid.
Explaining the reason for choosing Rathore as his assistant, Dravid said, ‘I have been working with Rathore for many years. Very calm and experienced. Aware of the Indian environment. Rathore’s arrival in the team is very good for Rajasthan Royals. We have made India a success together, it’s great to have the opportunity to work with him once again. Can work with young cricketers. We will aim to build a strong team.’
Rathore has previously worked for Punjab Kings in IPL. He also has the experience of working as the Cricket Director of Himachal Pradesh. Rathore is excited to get the chance to work with Dravid again, ‘I got a chance to work with Rahul once again. There are very talented young cricketers in the team, it will be great to work with them.’
From 1996 to 1997, he played 6 Tests and 7 ODIs in the jersey of the national team. His first-class cricket record is quite rich. Scored 11 thousand 473 runs for Punjab.
