Southern California dream homes are legendary, many an architectural delight. Exceptions prove the rule. Like the Barbie Dreamhouse in Malibu Beach. There are now some rooms available.
Los Angeles is known for its contemporary dream homes that dramatically set the scene for the spectacular landscape between Santa Barbara and Santa Monica. And then there’s the Barbie Dreamhouse in Malibu. Even through rose-colored glasses, it causes gangrene on the optic nerve.
Even Barbie and Ken had started out very conservative. Your first little house from 1962 would have fitted in well with Weimar or Dessau. A simple Bauhaus bungalow, furnished in a straight line, painted in primary colors, all made of cardboard and not a trace of pink. Barbie is gone for a few days, on a promo tour (“Barbie”, the film will be in cinemas from July 20th), the booth is newly renovated and now offers more than just an infinity pool and outdoor disco: “I have equipped the house with a little more… well, myself! I’m more than just a beach!”
