New Delhi: BSF along with DRI has arrested seven gold smugglers near the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal. Gold worth about Rs 7 crore has also been seized from them. These people had managed to smuggle such a huge amount of gold from Bangladesh to West Bengal. This consignment of gold was to go to Kolkata from here. However, they were arrested on the basis of intelligence input received by BSF.

BSF South Bengal Frontier DIG AK Arya said that a huge amount of gold was seized during a special operation conducted between 5:30 pm and 9 pm on July 4. BSF said that 9.6 kg gold bricks and biscuits worth Rs 6.86 crore were recovered from the accused. Along with this, Rs 11.5 lakh cash was also seized. They were caught by the soldiers of the 68th battalion of BSF posted in Nadia district. In this special operation conducted in collaboration with DRI, BSF conducted four consecutive search operations in Seema Nagar area on State Highway number-11 in which these seven gold smugglers were caught.

A Maruti Eco car used for the delivery of gold has also been seized from them. First two smugglers were caught in a car and then four were caught. Based on the information received from them, another person was caught with gold biscuits during a search of the house of a suspect in Ramnagar village of Karimpur. All the accused are residents of Nadia district in West Bengal.

During the initial interrogation, they told that this time this consignment of gold was to be delivered to an unknown person in Krishna Nagar. One of these accused was earlier caught by the BSF in 2022 for smuggling 16 gold biscuits. That case is still going on. The accused told that usually they take gold from the border area of ​​​​Karrimpur and give it to the person mentioned at Dumdum railway station. The arrested accused have been smuggling gold earlier as well. DRI is investigating this matter.
