It was at lunchtime on Tuesday that the school bus with the Danish students was stopped at Lernacken in Malmö. The bus had just driven over the Öresund Bridge.

– During the inspection, customs personnel find that he is grossly drunk and find a large number of cans in the driver’s vicinity, says Oscar Lindvall, deputy head of inspection for the Swedish Customs Service in southern Sweden, to Sydsvenskan.

On board the bus were, in addition to about 40 Danish children, also three adults who were going on the school excursion to Sweden.

The school bus was able to drive on

After the bus driver was stopped, the Customs Service discovered, apart from the fact that the driver was severely under the influence of alcohol, that he had spilled beer in his water bottle and that he had a number of cans around him.

– So he had intended to drink during the further journey. It is likely that a serious traffic accident could have been avoided, says Oscar Lindvall to Sydsvenskan.

The Danish students were able to continue their excursion in Sweden thanks to the travel organizer being able to send a replacement driver.

The drunk driver is suspected of aggravated drunken driving.
