Petah Tikva, Israel – The Magistrate’s Court in Petah Tikva has extended the detention of Lior Lazarihan, a resident of Moshav in Sharon, suspected of running over protesters on Route 531 near Kfar Saba. The incident, which occurred last night, left three people injured, including a mother and her son. Lazarihan faces several charges, including reckless driving, unlawful injury, malicious damage, endangering a person in a transportation lane, negligence after injury, driving a vehicle in a manner that endangers human life, and reckless driving.

During the hearing, Major General Adv. Yigal Fedida, the police representative, described the incident as serious, stating, “He was driving in the crowd, there were children and elderly people. We know three injured people, and there are others from whom we need to collect evidence. It is not clear if the suspect called the police before or after the incident.”

In defense of the suspect, attorney Kobi Flomo argued, “The suspect returns every evening on the same road, his pregnant wife was with him. He called the police—his car caught fire. He was in a mental and emotional state and didn’t know what was happening to him. He entered Flash due to an incident from the army. The suspect Metzer asks to apologize.”

Meir Medical Center provided an update, stating that a woman in her 40s was rushed to the hospital with burns and lower limb injuries as a result of being trampled at the demonstration. She is currently receiving treatment in the emergency room. The mother and son injured in the incident were also evacuated from the demonstration and are being treated in the emergency room, with minor injuries.

Former Prime Minister and opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the incident, attributing it to the direct incitement of a prime minister who has lost control and extremist ministers. Lapid referred to the incident as a hate crime. Meanwhile, Knesset member Gideon Sa’ar urged law enforcement to treat the incident as a hit-and-run attack and called for the quick arrest and prosecution of the suspect.
