Driving report Ford Puma 1.0

by time news

DThis little Ford is a real head turner. It simply looks good and stands out from the monotony of small SUVs. Based on the long-running Fiesta, the Puma has been on the market for two and a half years and has already found many friends. Five engine versions were initially available, four petrol and one diesel. Were offered 95, 125, 155 and 200 hp, in the diesel 120. Now the diesel and the 95 hp machine have been removed from the program.

It remains a trio of engines with three-cylinder machines, the strong one has 1.5 liters displacement, the other two only one liter. Nevertheless, one gets along well with it, at least with 155 hp, as described on January 14, 2020 on this page.

Now we moved the 125 hp variant and were hardly less satisfied. For the 4.20 meters short and around 1.3 ton Puma there is always enough power available, even if the three-cylinder is always growling to work. He has a small electric motor as a mild hybrid helper that provides support but does not take over the direction alone. The start-stop system works beautifully and smoothly. Six gears can be shifted manually, it’s a pleasure to be able to do this again.

Ford Puma 1.0

With the 155 hp Puma we needed an average of 6.9 liters of premium petrol for 100 kilometers, the weaker engine roars almost as well and was not more economical with 7.0 liters per 100 km. The steering and suspension do what they are supposed to do, but the front wheels spin quickly on wet roads when you step on the gas. All-wheel drive is not offered. The interior is largely known from the Fiesta, the build quality is good, the level of equipment is high. Maybe the design could be a little fresher. There is enough space in the front, it gets tight in the back, but it’s enough for children.

A little surprise awaits in the boot: there is an 80-litre compartment with a drain plug in the floor, for example for wet hiking boots. Another 456 and up to 1216 liters after folding down the split rear seat also fit into the Puma. The mountain lion can be a good offer for the young, still growing family, prices start at 27,400 euros, the test car that was driven had a final price of 33,830 euros.
