Drone sounds deafening: Norway calls for security help

An unidentified drone has been heard flying over Norway’s northern coast for the past few days. Fears that Russia could target Norwegian gas refineries have worried Norway.

Military experts suspect that the drone flight was Moscow’s doing, as Russia and Norway have replaced it as Europe’s main source of natural gas.

They list espionage, sabotage and intimidation as possible purposes for drone flights.

Norway has deployed warships, coast guard ships and fighter jets to patrol the drone threat.

Norway’s National Guard has also been stationed around coastal refineries for security.

The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gerstør, has called on NATO member countries France, Germany and the UK to help and send the navy to solve the problem.
