Drought effect: the IDB analyzes a new line of loans to assist affected producers

The historical drought that affects side by side the Argentina and how negatively it influences the field production and the crops deserved the special attention of National governmentand especially that of Ministry of Economy. With this in mind and in the center of the scene, now also the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) is from the game and studies the concrete possibility of a new assistance line for Argentine producers affected by the droughtaccording to the Ministry of Economy.

“In this way, the Inter-American Development Bank will provide lines of support that will help to improve the damage caused by the drought in the producers, attending to the social effects of the same”, it was officially announced.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Economic Policy, Gabriel Rubinsteinhis peer of Mecon International Economic and Financial Affairs, Marco Lavagna; the chief adviser, Leonardo Madcur; and the adviser to the minister in international relations, Gustavo Martinez Pandini.

Last Thursday the IDB approved a US$200 million loan that will finance improvements in the Argentine health system. This is the first individual operation of a conditional line of credit for investment projects (CCLIP) of US$600 million.

Along these lines, actions will be financed to reduce premature mortality and close the gaps in access to health services between jurisdictions of the country. To this end, the initiative seeks to increase effective access to diagnostic and care services by the population that exclusively has coverage from the public health system, estimated at 20.5 million people in 2022.

The initiative will also increase screening for cervical cancer in women with exclusive public coverage and increase the vaccination rate for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) for girls and boys 11 years old. Another objective is to increase the identification and follow-up of people with high blood pressure and with hyperglycemia or diabetes.

Besides the credit obtained by Argentina will support the implementation of the Community Mental Health Model and will increase the number of mental health medications delivered to health facilities.

Meanwhile, last week the Economy Minister Sergio Massaheld a meeting with the new World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerdein the framework of the Spring Meeting of the IMF and the World Bank.

“Very positive meeting with Anna Bjerde, new Managing Director of Operations of the World Bank. She ratified the solid support of the institution to our country, especially after the strong impact of the drought, which translates into projects being prepared for May and June for $950 million dollars”, Massa said after the meeting.

Also present at the meeting were Philip Jaramillo, Vice President of the World Bank for Latin America and the Caribbean; the Executive Director for Argentina and the Southern Cone, Cecilia Nahon; y Marianne Fayrepresentative of the World Bank in our country.
