It is a pretty plot of ten hectares in one piece on the plateau of Artannes-sur-Indre, near Tours (Indre-et-Loire). Crushed by the heat, it clashes with the yellow surrounding fields. Although cracked on the ground, Freddy Bougrier’s sorghum field displays a bright green despite a few sparse rows. “It’s practical, it doesn’t require any maintenance,” he rejoices. For around twenty years, farmers in Touraine have been growing sorghum, to alternate with maize.
