Drug Affairs announces the seizure of 3 tons of narcotics and the dismantling of international networks

The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances announced today, Friday, the seizure of about 3 tons of narcotic substances during the current year, while confirming the dismantling of international networks trying to tamper with the country’s security during the current year.

The Director of Media of the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, Hussein Al-Tamimi, told the (INA): “The directorate is working in coordination with neighboring and regional countries and the competent authorities to control drug trafficking networks,” while he confirmed that “the directorate seized 3 tons of narcotic substances during the year 2024.”

He added, “The General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances receives great support from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari, which enabled it to carry out major operations that resulted in the arrest of major international networks.”

He added, “The directorate’s work during the years 2023 and 2024 exceeds the work from 2003 to 2022 through continuous coordination that resulted in the dismantling of international networks trying to tamper with the country’s security.”

He pointed out that “the number of those arrested exceeded 10,000 defendants, and judicial rulings were issued against 5,500 of them.”
