Drug users from the Cracolândia flow invaded Estação da Luz, in the center of the city of São Pauloon the night of Tuesday 7.

After a confusion with security forces, users went to Rua Mauá, one of the train platforms, according to the Metrópoles portal. Images recorded by nearby residents show dozens of drug users from Cracolândia invading Estação da Luz through a side gate, which is usually closed.

The invasion occurred around 11:14 pm. Estação da Luz is one of the main integration points for rail transport in São Paulo. Three train lines and two metro lines pass through it.

Before, the flow of Cracolândia was on the corner of Rua dos Gusmões and Avenida Rio Branco. On October 22, a driver ran over 16 users and told the Civil Police that he was trying to escape after a robbery.

A São Paulo Metropolitan Train Company (CPTM) said that the access points to Rua Mauá, which serves CPTM lines 7-Rubi, 10-Turquesa and 11-Coral, are closed for security reasons.

“Passengers can use the Praça da Luz and Sala São Paulo access points, via Boulevard João Carlos Martins, which are operating normally and there was no interference in the operation of the lines,” CPTM said in a statement.

The government Tarcisio made more than 5,800 referrals of drug users, who passed through health services in the vicinity of Cracolândia, for hospitalization in the last seven months.

The government’s numbers do not only consider people who live in Cracolândia or the homeless. Approximately 65% ​​of referrals come from people in the central region of the city of São Paulo, and 70% from people who live on the city’s streets.
