The JTBC entertainment program ‘Strongest Baseball’ said on the 19th, “Due to recent unfortunate circumstances, Jang Won-sam, who is currently appearing on ‘Strongest Baseball’, has decided to leave the program.”

Then, “Player Jang Won-sam deeply reflects on this incident and feels responsible, and has expressed his intention to voluntarily step down to the production team. The production team has decided to accept his wishes, and Jang Won-sam’s portion of the show will be edited out as much as possible before being broadcast.”

According to Busan Southern Police Station and others on the 17th, at around 1:00 PM that day, Jang Won-sam was driving a BMW in reverse on the first lane of a left turn on a road in Gwangan-dong, Suyeong-gu, and collided with a Benz vehicle coming from behind. Police who arrived at the scene reportedly measured Jang Won-sam’s blood alcohol level, which was at a level that would result in his driver’s license being revoked. The police determined that it was a minor accident and sent the drivers home, and they plan to call Jang Won-sam in for questioning later.

On the 18th, Jang Won-sam posted on his social networking service (SNS) account, “It is true that I caused a drunk driving accident as reported. There is no room for excuses. I sincerely apologize for disappointing you.”

According to Jang Won-sam, on the 16th, he had a drinking party in Changwon with acquaintances. Jang Won-sam, who returned home at 3:37 AM on the 17th, had a meeting in Busan that day, so he left his house with his car at 12 PM and got into a minor collision. Jang Won-sam said, “I drank alcohol on the day of the accident and wasn’t drunk, but if I had a hangover, I shouldn’t have driven or used public transportation, but I got behind the wheel with a careless mind,” adding, “I was later ordered to take a breathalyzer test by a passing police officer, and the conclusion was that it was a minor collision caused by drunk driving.”

Jang Won-sam said, “I am truly sorry for causing hurt and disappointment to everyone due to my mistake, and I am so disappointed in myself,” and apologized to the members of ‘Strongest Baseball’ and the fans.

Meanwhile, Jang Won-sam joined Hyundai Unicorns in 2006 and played as a pitcher for Samsung, LG, and Lotte before retiring in 2020. He recently appeared on the JTBC entertainment show ‘Strongest Baseball’.
