Vicki Lawrence and her alter ego Mama are returning to the Bankhead on Saturday, Aug. 16, for afternoon and evening performances. Lawrence, best known for her “Mama” character on “the Carol Burnett Show” from 1967 to 1978, will present “Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show.”
She also played Mama in the 1982 TV film “Eunice” and starred in the spinoff, “Mama’s Family,” which ran for six seasons beginning in 1983. Beyond acting, lawrence earned a gold record for her 1973 hit single, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”
“I think people will get a kick out of the things Mama has an opinion about,” lawrence says. “We’re creating new material with a more modern and cutting edge. where Mama is concerned, expect the unexpected.” Lawrence and Mama previously performed at the Bankhead in 2018.
