Dubai Customs has seized 2.34 lakh pills that were tried to be illegally smuggled into Dubai. Tramadol, a pain reliever that can only be used with a doctor’s prescription, was seized. Tramadol is under intense scrutiny due to its misuse as an addictive drug.
The customs officials found the pills wrapped in towels from the Asian country and brought to Dubai by sea.
Special permission from the UAE Department of Health must be obtained before bringing controlled drugs into the UAE for personal use. If permission is granted, it can be brought for a maximum period of 3 months. A prescription from the concerned doctor is also mandatory. These should be shown to the customs and made to convince the authorities that they are for their own use.
