A strong disturbance hit the Emirates between Monday and Tuesday. The shocking images of floating cars
Dubai flooded, luxury cars under half a meter of water, metro stations that look like Piazza San Marco in Venice during high water. It is not fake news but what happened on Tuesday morning in the United Arab Emirates, where a strong disturbance hit which brought torrential rain to usually desert areas. The rains began overnight and strong winds disrupted flights at Dubai International Airport. The semi-final of the Asian Champions Cup between Al-Ain and Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal has been postponed by a day.
«Stuck in my Rolls-Royce»
Many videos and messages on social media from an area not accustomed to these phenomena. There are those who say they were stuck in their Rolls-Royce when water entered. Others post images of flooding in shopping malls, on the ground floor of luxury hotels located in the skyscrapers of the metropolis of the Emirates. Schools remained largely closed. Authorities sent water tankers onto roads and highways to pump away the water. In fact, many areas lack drainage systems. Initial estimates indicate the amount of water that fell in Dubai this morning at over 30 millimeters, with 128 mm of rain expected during the day. Precipitation also affected Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Heavy rains also hit Oman, causing heavy flooding that left 18 dead, the country’s National Emergency Management Committee reported. Among them were also ten schoolchildren who were hit while they were inside a vehicle.
