Dubai Municipality Intensifies Food Safety Inspections During Ramadan to Ensure Public Health and Safety

Dubai: Dubai Municipality has intensified monitoring campaigns and inspections for food safety and public health protection during Ramadan. The campaigns cover various sectors such as Dubai markets, commercial centres, food establishments, food preparation facilities, restaurants, hotels, hypermarkets and supermarkets. In addition, the campaign extends to salons, beauty centers, smoking areas in cafes and restaurants, gaming and event areas, Dubai’s labor cities and community markets.

Officials said the municipality actively oversees compliance with safety, public health and food safety standards as part of its commitment to monitor key areas during Ramadan. This includes strict adherence to recognized food safety standards by owners and staff in areas such as food preparation, storage and cooking, and emphasis on maintaining the quality and validity of the ingredients used.

Sultan Al Taher, director of the food safety department at Dubai Municipality, said the focus of Ramadan preparations is the monitoring of food preparation establishments, popular kitchens, warehouses, consumer complexes, hotels, hypermarkets and markets. The aim is to ensure that all residents of the emirate have access to nutritious and safe food that meets the highest food safety standards. The municipality has adjusted the working hours in Al Khoos, Al Lesili, Qizais and Hatta areas from Saturday to Thursday from 8am to 4pm during Ramadan. Friday will be between 8am and 12pm and 2pm and 4pm.

∙ 9 Essential items will not increase in price
Meanwhile, a top official in the Ministry of Finance said that there will be no increase in retail prices of 9 essential items during Ramadan without prior approval. Price hikes in cooking oil, eggs, dairy products, rice, sugar, poultry, pulses, bread and wheat have been banned.
