Dubai: Roundtable on the major role of news agencies in shaping economic narratives of the future

Initiated as part of the first day of the World Government Summit (WGS) 2024 with the participation of officials and directors of news agencies from the Arab region, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, this meeting highlighted the role of news agencies in supporting future economies, promoting innovative business concepts and their ability to address issues related to emerging economic sectors.

She also focused on the role of media professionals in the business journalism of tomorrow, as well as the importance of media partnerships to stimulate the exchange of experiences and the continuing education of young media professionals.

Speaking on this occasion, Mohamed Jalal Alrayssi, Director General of WAM, highlighted the key role of news agencies in promoting future economic concepts and their effective transmission to the general public, noting that the media sector is experiencing remarkable progress which are in line with global technological developments, with the emergence of new technologies in media work using artificial intelligence (AI) and data, which will shape the future of media.

He also mentioned certain recommendations from this round table, in particular the need for training and qualification of employees of press agencies and media, through the conclusion of partnerships with government and private institutions concerned with commercial affairs in order to train journalists on how to process data and information related to contemporary economic concepts, including the green economy, digital currencies and artificial intelligence.

For his part, Mohammed Al Yami, Director General of the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA), highlighted the leading role of news agencies in dealing with new economic models despite the challenges, insisting on the need to keep pace with the changes observed in the contemporary media sector and to adapt to new technological developments.

Farid Ayar, secretary general of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), for his part, affirmed that news agencies play a leading role in shaping public opinion on economic trends, noting that The majority of news agencies around the world have specialized economic departments responsible for disseminating information and reports of an economic nature.

For his part, Grégoire Ndjaka, Director General of the African Broadcasting Union (AUB), stressed the need to ensure the current capacities of news agencies to cover emerging economic sectors such as green energy, crypto -currencies and industries based on AI.

The World Government Summit, which opened on Monday, will examine pressing issues facing humanity in different areas, including economics, technology, artificial intelligence, sustainability, finance and education.
