The beIN Sports channel announced on Tuesday that it had to give up broadcasting the Young Boys of Bern matches in the Champions League in France due to its jersey sponsor.

“Following a decision by the DGCCRF (Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, Editor’s note), we must today refrain from broadcasting the Young Boys Berne matches in the UEFA Champions League”writes the media on X, formerly Twitter.

“According to the DGCCRF, any broadcast showing one of the sponsors of this team would constitute prohibited advertising”continues BeIN, in reference to the trading site «Plus500» which appears on the Swiss club’s jerseys.

Plus500 is a financial transactions platform registered in Cyprus whose website is accompanied by a banner warning against “high risk of rapid loss of capital”.

Already last season, beIN Sports had to suspend the broadcast of Atalanta Bergamo matches in the Italian championship for the same reasons.

The platform is also sponsor of the Chicago Bulls, in the North American basketball championship (NBA), and Legia Warsaw, in the Polish football championship.

Young Boys Bern are placed in Group G of the Champions League, with Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Red Star Belgrade. They begin their European campaign this Tuesday (6:45 p.m.) with the reception in Leipzig.
