Due to forecast of heavy rains, yellow alert is activated for this July 4

The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) has activated a yellow alert in some municipalities in Mexico City due to the heavy rains forecast for the next few hours.

This Thursday, the SGIRPC, through an information sheet published on its official accounts, announced that the yellow alert was activated in five districts of CDMX, this following the heavy rains that are forecast during the afternoon-evening of this July 4.

The agency indicated at 12:00 p.m. that the affected municipalities between 4:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. are:

  • Alvaro Obregon
  • Cuajimalpa
  • Magdalena Contreras
  • High Milpa
  • Tlalpan

Among the recommendations given by Civil Protection are:

  • Remove trash from public roads, rivers or ravines, since water can carry it away and block drains.
  • Close all doors and windows
  • Wear a raincoat with reflective stripes if you are riding a bicycle.
  • Do not cross streets or avenues that have water currents.
  • If hail falls, it is important not to stay under light structures, as they may collapse.
  • If there is a risk of landslides or rolling rocks, you must evacuate immediately.
  • Sweep the roof of your house, do not let trash and leaves accumulate

They also ask the population to be careful of possible falling branches, trees and street furniture, as well as puddles on the roads.

July 4th Weather

According to the National Meteorological Service’s 72-hour extended forecast, derived from a low pressure channel and instability at high levels of the atmosphere, there will be intervals of showers with heavy rainfall in Mexico City, the State of Mexico and Morelos, as well as intervals of showers in Hidalgo, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Querétaro.

  • Estimated maximum temperature in Mexico City: 24 to 26 °C.
  • Minimum temperature recorded at Mexico City’s Benito Juárez International Airport: 14.0°C.
  • Wind from the northeast and east at 10 to 20 km/h with gusts of 40 km/h.
