One-sided agreements that protect India’s interests on connectivity will continue to fuel anti-India sentiment in the public mind. Professionals have expressed fear that due to the reinstatement of the unfair quota system, class discrimination will become evident among the citizens of the country.

On Thursday (July 11) at 4 pm, they expressed their apprehension at a public hearing organized by Amara Bangladesh Party (AB Party) at Vijay-71 Chattar in Vijaynagar of the capital.

These protest public hearings were organized against the granting of corridors to India, the re-introduction of discriminatory quotas, the looting of corrupt people like Benazir-Motiur and the constant hike in commodity prices. People from different classes and professions, ordinary people and politicians spoke in it. Party member secretary Mojibur Rahman Manju conducted the public hearing under the chairmanship of AB party joint convener BM Nazmul Haque.

In his opening speech, Mojibur Rahman Manju said that if the citizens of India want to travel from one state to another state by train through our country, the people of Bangladesh also have the right to travel to Nepal, Bhutan and China through India. But, unfortunately, the ruling government is not focused on getting our interests from India. In the last 15 years, the government could not get any promise from India to stop the indiscriminate killing of helpless Bangladeshi citizens on the border. The government could not even collect its fair share of water from 54 identical rivers from India.

Describing the quota system as unconstitutional, he said that if this quota is not reformed, class discrimination will become more pronounced among citizens, which will eventually lead to civil war.

BM Nazmul Haque said, the question of the people is, why all the agreements and memorandum of understanding of this government are only for the interest of India? What are the interests of Bangladesh in the joint satellite agreement with India? What will benefit us? Is this agreement not a threat to our national security and sovereignty? People want to know about these things. The unilateral MoU should be canceled immediately.

Joint member secretary of the party, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad, said that the Prime Minister went to Beijing with 196 representatives to beg, much more than Benji’s money, the Motiurs have looted each one.

He strongly condemned the police attack on the students participating in the anti-quota movement.

Lt. Col. (retd.) Didarul Alam said that the people of the country will not accept the one-sided railway corridor agreement with India made by the government without voters.

Advocate Abdullah Al Mamun Rana, who participated in the public hearing, said, “I condemn the attempt to destroy the students’ rights movement by placing a gun on the neck of the court.”

Women entrepreneur Amena Begum said that our expenses are increasing day by day, but the income is not increasing accordingly. We are getting stuck in the web of debt.

Student representative Khalid Saifullah said, we are protesting against quota. To stop that, the government has attacked the students with the police all over the country today. Citizens should be vocal against this.

Labor representative Mujibur Rahman Mallik said, I cannot feed the children from the market. There is no other option unless we all protest against the government.

Sirajul Islam, the representative of the security guards, said that now we are borrowing 5-6 thousand taka every month. The prices of the goods are very high. This situation cannot continue.
