This is the Franco-Dominican Eléonore Caroit, elected by the constituency of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Failures in the process electronic voting in Argentina have led the French Constitutional Court to annul the mandate of Franco-Dominican deputy Eléonore Caroit, chosen by Emmanuel Macron’s party in June 2022 for the Latin America and Caribbean constituency.

The decision leads to the repetition of these elections, for a date yet to be defined, in which the nearly 75,000 French registered in the electoral lists of the Latin American and Caribbean countries are summoned. As confirmed today to EFE, Caroit will be introduced again.

In its statement, the Constitutional Court explained that only 11% of those registered in the consular lists of Argentina received the codes to be able to vote remotely, a ruling that “prevented several thousand voters from participating in the first round” of the legislative elections. , held on June 12.

In them, Caroit went to the second round with 34.57% of the votes, followed by 28.20% of the French-Chilean Christian Rodríguez, of the leftist La Francia Insumisa (LFI). In the second turn of June 19, the young deputy won with 57.42% of the votes, compared to 42.58% for Rodríguez.

The abstention rate, traditionally very high in foreign constituencies, stood at 85%.

The highest administrative body in France clarified, however, that this malfunction of the electronic voting process “is not attributable to the chosen candidate, nor to the other participating candidates.”

The Constitutional Court also annulled the mandate of the deputy of the Unsubdued France, Karim Ben Cheïkh, who affects the Maghreb and West Africa constituency, due to errors in the Algerian lists, similar to those registered in Argentina. Cheïkh had defeated, with 54.07% of the votes, the former Macron minister Elisabeth Moreno (45.93%).
