Duleep Trophy: Western Region close to crown | Duleep Trophy: Western Region looking to win

by time news

Coimbatore: Western Region doubled their first innings lead in the second innings to clinch the Duleep Trophy title. As the bowlers continued the surge made by the Western Region batters with a smashing performance, the South Region faced a huge defeat.

Chasing an unattainable total of 529, South Region were stumped on the fourth day at 156 for the loss of six wickets. The top batting team needs to score another 375 runs to avoid defeat. The batting firework of Yashaswi Jaiswal with a double century and Sarfaraz Khan with a century made the Western region score big.

The only consolation was that Rohan again broke the South Region line-up, which had faltering in the beginning. Except Rohan, who scored 93 runs in 100 balls, no one held back. On the one hand, Shams Mulani returned Rohan, who batted unwaveringly even when wickets fell.

Captain Hanuma Vihari, Mayank Aggarwal, Baba Indrajith, Manish Pandey etc all failed. Adit Sheth and Jaydev Unadkat formed the backbone of the South Region batting. Score: West Region 270, 585/4, South Region 327, 154/6.
