Dumoulin hit by the car during training – season over | Free press

Maastricht (AP) – Olympic runner-up Tom Dumoulin was hit by a car during training and broke his right wrist. This was announced by his racing team Jumbo-Visma. The Dutch professional cyclist is due to have an operation and has to end the season early.

The incident took place on September 9th. A turning car had hit the former Giro d’Italia winner. The 30-year-old was on a scouting tour for his own Tour de Dumoulin, an event planned for October 3rd in the Ardennes.

“It’s a big disappointment because I’ve just been really good again,” said Dumoulin, adding: “I had a lot of confidence that I could drive a strong month.” After his second place in the Olympic individual time trial, the Dutchman was also one of the favorites for a medal at the World Championships in Flanders at the end of the month.
