Is Sean Keogh’s impending transfer to Brighton a record-breaking move for Dundalk FC? The County Louth club is set to confirm the deal in the coming days, once personal terms are finalized.
Keogh, a Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, has become a fixture for Dundalk since his league debut last June. The talented left-back was handed his first start by then-manager Jon Daly in a 2-0 home defeat against Waterford FC on June 28, 2024. Since then, he has consistently impressed.
The 19-year-old, who hails from Skerries in Co Dublin, has made 38 appearances for Dundalk, netting two goals. He has also earned four caps for the Republic of Ireland U-19 side in their UEFA Euro U19 Championship qualifiers. Current Dundalk boss Ciarán Kilduff has lauded Keogh’s ability, calling him “the best left-back in the country in either division.”
Keogh, who recently completed his Leaving Certificate, follows in the footsteps of Richie Towell, the last Dundalk player to join Brighton, a decade ago when he moved as a free agent at the end of the 2015 season.
Brighton, who finished eighth in the Premier League last season, have a history of signing Irish talent. Notably, they have fellow Irish internationals Andrew Moran and U-21 defender Eiran Cashin on their books. Meanwhile, former Bohemians striker Evan Ferguson is reportedly nearing a loan move to Italian Serie A club Roma.
In related news, Cork City winger Malik Dijksteel has signed a pre-contract agreement with Scottish Premiership side St Mirren. This announcement was made today.
