In a historic act that strengthens the language, culture and traditions of the Yaqui community from a perspective of respect for their autonomy, the governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño and the president Claudia Sheinbaumduring their first visit to Sonora in their mandate, inaugurated the University of the Yaqui Peoplefor which an investment of 56.5 million pesos was allocated.

The head of the state Executive emphasized that this work represents an example of the coordinated work and the new dialogue relationship between the Government of Mexico, the Government of Sonora and the Justice Plan of the Yaqui People.

“The University of the Yaqui People, which is light for the future of young people of this community that must be a source of unity and prosperity for all members of the Yaqui ethnic group and must be not only hotbed of professionalsbut a source of unity, we need a united community,” he highlighted.

President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that the right to education It is a fundamental axis of the Fourth Transformation, which is combined with the rights of the people of Mexico.

“We are going to support this university of the Yaqui people with everything to continue expanding it and giving it all the resources it needs. The university has 11 classes, three laboratoriesand services modulethree workshop areas and a administration building.

By 2024, the number of scholarship recipients increased to 316 students, which is equivalent to 88.7% of enrollment.
