Durazo and Sheinbaum reinforce social, infrastructure and health projects for Sonora

Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, accompanied by their respective cabinets, met to evaluate progress in key projects for the development of Sonora, within the framework of the Fourth Transformation and the Justice Plans for the indigenous peoples.

The head of the state Executive highlighted that, in line with President Sheinbaum’s guidelines, key issues in health, education and infrastructure were addressed. He assured that during the meeting significant progress was reviewed in crucial areas for her administration, and the president reiterated her commitment to projects that strengthen Sonora’s economy, promoting its attractiveness for investment.

They will seek to reinforce security in Sonora

In terms of health, Durazo mentioned that the Government of Sonora will reinforce social security through the IMSS-Wellbeing, with an investment of more than two billion pesos. These resources have allowed us to improve hospital infrastructure, ensure the supply of medicines and increase the number of specialist doctors. In particular, he highlighted the progress of the IMSS-Bienestar Rural Hospital in Vícam Switch, with an investment of 503 million pesos, which will benefit more than 47 thousand people from the Yaqui towns.

On the other hand, the governor reiterated the continuity of the Justice Plans, which have the support of the Government of Mexico. These plans seek to guarantee the rights of indigenous peoples in various areas such as land, water, health, education, and more, contributing to their comprehensive development.

Durazo also highlighted the progress in infrastructure, mentioning the rehabilitation of federal highways in Agua Prieta and Cananea, as well as the start of the Bavispe-Casas Grandes project in 2025. He thanked President Sheinbaum for the support in continuing the ‘Bachetón’ program to improve road conditions in the state.

The governor also detailed investments in hydraulic infrastructure, highlighting the construction of three dams in Hermosillo, with an investment of seven billion pesos in the next three years. This project will be complemented by the strengthening of irrigation systems in the region.

Finally, Durazo mentioned the support of the Government of Mexico to education in Sonora, highlighting the recent inauguration of the University of the Yaqui People and the delivery of 325 scholarships from the Sonora de Oportunidades program, actions that seek to provide greater opportunities to young people from Sonora.
