Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, stressed the continuation of cooperation and communication with the UN mission and the international community, and the House of Representatives’ commitment to the political agreement.
This came during his meeting, today, Thursday, in the city of Qubbah, with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Khoury.
According to the spokesman for the House of Representatives, Abdullah Blihaq, the meeting discussed the latest developments in Libya, especially those related to the Central Bank of Libya, where the need to calm the situation was emphasized in a way that ensures that the work of the most important financial institution in the country is not negatively affected, and that the formation of the Central Bank’s Board of Directors is to be initiated in accordance with the applicable legislation.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the need for more efforts and endeavors by various parties to resume the political process, leading to an agreement on unifying the executive authority and forming a unified government to proceed with organizing presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
Aguila Saleh also stressed the House of Representatives’ commitment to the outcomes of the 6+6 Joint Committee to prepare electoral laws and everything that would end the political division and achieve the will of the Libyans to organize presidential and parliamentary elections.
For her part, Khoury stressed her continuous and serious efforts to rebuild trust between the various parties by bringing viewpoints closer together.
