“Eagle S” is a ship of the Russian “shadow fleet”, according to the British maritime publication “Lloyd’s List”.
It was previously reported that the Hong Kong-flagged vessel Xin Xin Tiang 2 was in the vicinity of the EstLink 2 during its outage.
At the time when the cable damage was detected, the “Eagle S” significantly reduced its speed, according to the information of the marine traffic monitoring service “Marinetraffic”.
Based on monitoring data, a Finnish border guard patrol boat diverted the tanker away from the area near the Porkala Peninsula in the early evening of Christmas Day.
Both ships were still in the vicinity of Porkala early Thursday morning.
According to “Marinetraffic”, the oil tanker was on its way from St. Petersburg to Egypt.
Lloyd’s List refers to ships over 15 years old, whose true owners are unknown and whose sole purpose is to transport oil from sanctioned countries, as a “shadow fleet”.
