BOLZANO. The Supreme Court confirmed the conviction of the former governor of South Tyrol Louis durnwalder to two years and six months for embezzlement in the context of a procedure for the management of so-called reserved funds. Durnwalder was accused of using public funds for private spending. After a long trial, the Supreme Court has now confirmed the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Trento two years ago.

Durnwalder’s lawyer, Avv. Gerhard Brandstaetter, announced an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. The SVP expressed solidarity with the former governor. “Not a penny ended up in the pocket of Luis Durnwalder who has always acted for the good of the citizens”, says the SVP secretary Philipp Achammer.
