The Dacia Duster, a popular choice for those seeking an affordable and rugged crossover, is receiving some important updates for the upcoming model year. The new Duster will introduce autonomous emergency braking for the first time, including pedestrian and cyclist detection, as well as automatic high beam and active lane departure correction. However, it falls short in some areas as cruise control remains non-adaptive, there is no emergency braking in reverse, and there is no warning system for forgetting children in the back seat. As a result, the Duster may not achieve the highest safety rating in the European crash test, but it is expected to fare better than the previous generation.

In a significant move, the Duster Diesel will no longer be offered, and instead, a hybrid drive will be available. The hybrid system, already found in Renault, Nissan, and Dacia Jogger models, combines a 1,600 cc gasoline engine and an electric motor to produce 141 hp. This marks the first time the Duster will offer an economical hybrid unit, with fuel consumption figures yet to be released, as well as an automatic transmission.

Additionally, the new Duster will feature a 1,600 cc moderate hybrid gasoline turbo engine with 130 hp and a 6-speed manual transmission, as well as a 1,000 cc, 100 hp, manual turbo gasoline engine that can be adapted to use natural gas. The 1,600 cc version will give buyers the option of front-wheel drive, while the others will also have dual-wheel drive.

The Dacia Duster has long been known for its robust and no-nonsense approach to practicality, and these updates show the brand’s commitment to keeping the Duster relevant in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape. With its new safety features and the introduction of a hybrid drive, the Duster is likely to continue its appeal to value-conscious consumers in the crossover segment.
