Quincy Promes is uncertain about returning to the Netherlands. The Dutch international winger of Spartak Moscow has just been sentenced by the Amsterdam court to 18 months in prison for assault, after a fight dating back to 2020, during which he stabbed his cousin in the knee. His lawyer assured that he would appeal this sanction.

The 31-year-old international (50 caps, 7 goals), who has not been selected since Euro 2021, is currently in Moscow, where he is under contract with Spartak until June 2024, and he did not go to the verdict of his trial, claiming obligations with his club. Promes, who must also pay 7,000 euros in compensation, was initially prosecuted for attempted homicide but the evidence of his desire to kill his victim was deemed insufficient and his clean criminal record pleaded in his favor.

The stabbing attack which he denies being the author took place on the night of July 24 to 25, 2020 in Abcoude, while we were celebrating, in a warehouse of the footballer’s clothing company, the his brother’s birthday. Two witnesses allegedly saw Promes stab his victim. The knife severed a tendon in the leg of the cousin, who still suffers from these after-effects.

The player also fears being arrested if he returns to the Netherlands because he must be heard there for a drug trafficking case, according to Telegraaf. He is accused, alongside another 31-year-old Dutchman, of having imported “several hundred kilos” of cocaine in January 2020, in particular via the port of Antwerp, Belgium. The former Ajax player and Oranje international also denies any involvement.
