One of the favorite experiences of Israelis who fly abroad and in general, is the duty free shopping experience. But are the duty-free shops really cheaper, as they claim to be? And maybe it’s just a marketing myth? On The Points Guy website they checked the issue and came back with surprising answers.
They compared the price of several popular duty free products at 12 major airports in the world. After this step, a search was conducted for the same products in physical stores and online stores, this of course without special promotions on the products.

According to the results, we have some recommendations for you: Do not buy sunglasses, especially at airports in sunny countries. On average, Sweden is one of the cheapest places to buy alcohol products at airports. The airports in Dubai are among the cheapest to purchase tobacco products. Buy your makeup and perfume at the airport in Poland, and don’t buy champagne at JFK airport in New York.
The conclusions from the conducted survey are that the prices at duty free are definitely not always the cheapest, and if there is something you really need and know you are going to purchase at duty free, you should check first online and there is a good chance you will find it cheaper.
Dubai airport is on average the most expensive when it comes to alcohol and beauty products. When it comes to alcohol, Sweden’s capital Stockholm offered the best value on average of all the airports surveyed. If you are into whiskey – you will find the cheapest at the Polish airport. In addition, Warsaw is also the place where you can buy the cheapest beauty products
