BRASILIA (Reuters) – The Minister of Management, Esther Dweck, announced this Friday that the government will open 4,436 vacancies in the public service this year through competitive examinations, covering 20 bodies in 14 ministries.

The government estimates that the new hires will have an annual budgetary impact of 735 million reais, but the effects of most of that total will only be felt from next year, according to the minister, due to the process of holding the tenders.

“It’s not this year’s impact. It’s the annualized impact, that is, it’s the full impact for next year. This year’s impact will probably be very small, because these people tend to enter at the end of the year”, said Dweck at a press conference with journalists at the folder’s headquarters.

The minister explained that there is a hurry to create vacancies, but the process of elaborating the contests lengthens the opening process. Dweck, however, stated that the portfolio is working with the National School of Public Administration to create a commission to support the ministries in carrying out their tenders.

“This process of authorizing a tender and starting the tender process is not trivial,” said Dweck. “Precisely because of the lack of competitions for a long time, these areas of preparation of competitions in the ministries are unstructured.”

She also pointed out that the department will reinforce racial quotas in the processes and that, according to her, the elaboration of a new law of quotas is under discussion to be sent to Congress “until the middle of the year”, since the validity of the current law , which is for 10 years, expires in the middle of next year.

The minister also highlighted that the portfolio’s expectation is that future competitions are increasingly aimed at candidates who have graduated in higher education.
