construction

The construction sector continues to suffer. In March, the volume was 9.8% below the previous year. At current prices, business output in the first quarter totaled HUF 1,370 billion.

Since last summer, the trend in construction has been pointing downwards. As reported by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) on Monday, construction output in March fell seasonally and adjusted for working days by 1.2% compared to the previous month. In a year-on-year comparison, building construction collapsed by 13%, and incoming orders in civil engineering fell by more than half! At the end of the first quarter, the volume of orders was 28% more modest than at the same time a year ago. While building construction companies lost almost a tenth of their volume, in civil engineering it was even four tenths.

Overall, construction output fell by 9.2% over the first three months, with the extremes in January (-5.5%) and February (-11%). Unaffected by the dwindling orders, or perhaps because of this, the industry once again raised its prices by almost 5% compared to the fourth quarter. Compared to the first quarter of 2022, construction work has generally increased in price by 22-25.5%, with specialist trades leading the way.
