Dyn Media to Modernize HBL TV International Streaming Service

Germany’s Handball-Bundesliga (HBL) is bolstering its international reach with a significant upgrade to its streaming service, HBL TV. The league has expanded its partnership with Dyn Media, a sports streaming platform, to modernize the technical infrastructure supporting HBL TV and deliver content to a wider global audience.

Beginning in mid-2026, Dyn Media will assume responsibility for the technical evolution of HBL TV, which currently provides access to HBL matches and highlights in over 100 countries lacking dedicated media partnerships. This expansion aims to make the league more accessible to handball fans worldwide.

Expanding International Access Through Technology

A key component of this partnership is the implementation of an international Over-The-Top (OTT) infrastructure for HBL TV. This new system will be integrated with Dyn Media’s Content Desk, automating the transfer of matches and highlights from both the HBL and the second-tier 2.HBL. The automation extends to event creation and live stream execution, minimizing the necessitate for manual intervention and ensuring a smoother viewing experience.

“International visibility today is not created by rights alone, but by powerful technological infrastructure,” said Andreas Heyden, chief executive of Dyn Media. “With HBL TV, we are further developing a scalable platform together with HBL that combines reach, efficiency, and innovative capacity. Our ambition is to equip sports organizations technologically so that they can manage their content globally in an independent and sustainable way.”

A Continued Partnership Built on Innovation

This latest agreement builds upon a pre-existing relationship between Dyn Media and the HBL. Dyn Media has already provided the league with several technological solutions, including the creation of a fully digitized archive of matches dating back to 1991. The company also supplies the HBL with AI-based systems for automated and semi-automated content creation, as well as its Content Desk platform for managing, distributing, and monetizing league content.

Frank Bohmann, managing director of the Handball-Bundesliga, emphasized the value of the partnership, stating, “Dyn Media has been an innovative partner for years. The collaboration ranges from the digital archive and AI applications to content distribution. By further developing our HBL TV platform, we are taking the next step together to expand HBL’s international presence and future-proof it technologically.”

Dyn Media’s Growing Handball Portfolio

Dyn Media has established itself as a major player in handball broadcasting. The company currently holds exclusive rights to Europe’s EHF Champions League, EHF Champions League Women, and EHF European League competitions through 2030. This commitment was further solidified with a recent agreement with the European Handball Federation (EHF) for the 2026 European Championships in both men’s and women’s national team competitions.

Beyond the HBL, Dyn Media’s portfolio includes the broadcasting rights for the men’s and women’s domestic Bundesliga competitions in Germany, solidifying its position as a dominant force in German handball broadcasting.

Strategic Restructuring at Dyn Media

The partnership with HBL comes on the heels of a strategic restructuring within Dyn Media itself. Just two weeks ago, the company announced it would split into two sister companies: Dyn Sport and Dyn Media. Dyn Sport will focus on acquiring and marketing rights directly to consumers, even as Dyn Media will concentrate on broadcasting operations, content production, and the development of technological solutions for sports organizations, leagues, and rights holders.

This division of responsibilities is intended to streamline operations and allow each company to focus on its core competencies, ultimately benefiting partners like the Handball-Bundesliga and fans around the world.

The HBL’s move to enhance its international streaming capabilities reflects a broader trend in sports broadcasting, where direct-to-consumer platforms and technological innovation are becoming increasingly essential for reaching global audiences. Fans can expect further developments in the HBL TV platform as Dyn Media implements its new infrastructure in preparation for the 2026 launch.

The next step in this evolution will be the full implementation of the new OTT infrastructure by mid-2026, with further details on specific features and accessibility to be announced by Dyn Media and the HBL in the coming months.
