Dyson unveils its special and new headphones, but what’s up with the price?

Last March, Dyson unveiled the first headphones it developed that look like a futuristic and apocalyptic development. A significant part of the WTF factor of the headphones is a built-in air filtration system, plus a kind of “mask” (in English, Visor) that will deliver the filtered air straight into your nose and mouth. Today (Thursday) Dyson reveals new information about the headphones, and the price tag of the songs it raised.

Battery life is promising, but what’s that price?

The Dyson Zone headphones will come – as we reported when they were announced earlier this year – with active noise cancellation (ANC) capabilities and will include 11 microphones for maximum utilization of this capability. In a preliminary press briefing, Dyson engineers told us that the microphones in the headphones sample external noises 384,000 times per second, in order to cancel the noises in the best possible way.

In addition to the air filters, which the Dyson engineering teams took from the air filter products in the house and compressed them, each earbud also includes a filter. The headphones are supposed to create an isolated “zone” for the user and hence oil: both a “zone” isolated from noise thanks to the ANC capabilities and an area isolated from polluted air by using the air filtration system and the mask that feeds the clean air to the mouth and nose.

In the company’s briefing, it was revealed that as long as you want to use the Zone for listening to music only, you can squeeze up to 50 hours of listening time thanks to its 2,600mAh battery. This figure drops significantly if you also want to use the air filtering capabilities. Air filtration on the weakest setting will drop the battery life to 6 hours, filtering on the medium level will drop the battery life to 3 hours and on the highest level – something you’d probably save for downtown Beijing or some super-polluted place like that – will cut the battery life to an hour only half.

Dyson Zone will reach the general public in China as early as next month, and in March they will also arrive in the United States. They are also expected to arrive in Israel in 2023, but an exact launch date or price has not yet been determined. The price of the headphones in the United States will be, wait for it, $949 and that’s before tax or the costs of changing the filters at least once a year. According to estimates, their price in Israel will be about NIS 4,000.
