Kozhikode, Kerala – In response to the recent outbreak of the Nipah virus in the district, the Kerala government has initiated an online outpatient unit to provide necessary treatment to those affected by the deadly virus. The Left Democratic Front coalition, led by Pinarayi Vijayan from the Communist Party of India, is currently in power in the state.
The Nipah virus has wreaked havoc in Kozhikode, with six confirmed cases and two fatalities reported so far. As part of its efforts to contain the virus and offer appropriate medical assistance, the state government has taken proactive measures.
Under the telephonic treatment program called ‘e-Sanjeevini,’ Kerala has launched an online outpatient department specifically designed for Nipah virus patients. This initiative allows individuals to receive consultation and medical advice from doctors without the need to visit a hospital. The online treatment facility is operational between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM daily.
Apart from offering medical assistance, the online outpatient unit also aims to address any concerns or doubts related to the Nipah virus. This innovative approach is a significant step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected individuals and preventing the further spread of the virus within the community.
Encouragingly, no new cases of the Nipah virus have been reported in the last two days. Recent tests conducted on 42 individuals, who were potentially exposed, yielded negative results, alleviating concerns regarding the potential scope of the outbreak.
Veena George, the State Health Minister, provided an update on the current situation. She stated, “No new cases have been reported for the past two days. As per the necessary protocols, surveillance efforts will be continued for a total of 42 days from the last confirmation of vulnerability.”
The authorities remain vigilant and committed to implementing comprehensive surveillance measures to monitor and contain any potential resurgence of the Nipah virus.
