The state of Lower Austria is contributing 387,000 euros to a joint emergency aid campaign by the federal states for the Ukraine. “Now it is important that Europe appears united,” said Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) on Sunday.

The attack on Ukraine brought a lot of suffering and hardship, according to the governor. “We stand by Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Now it is important that Europe appears united and sets a sign for the suffering people with clear measures and assistance,” said Johanna Mikl-Leitner. In agreement with the federal government, Lower Austria will support all measures directed against violence and aggression and will contribute 387,000 euros to the planned aid measures.

The federal states are providing a total of two million euros. The amount of the respective holdings results from the population key. The federal government is also contributing a further 2.5 million euros in emergency aid for Ukraine.

“With the aid measures on the part of the country, we want to support the Ukrainian population and thus set a sign of solidarity and sympathy,” added Finance Minister Ludwig Schleritzko (ÖVP). The emergency aid measures are handled by aid organizations such as the Red Cross, Caritas, Volkshilfe or the SOS Children’s Villages.
