Early parliamentary elections to be held in Leninsky district on May 28

On March 29, President Sadyr Japarov called early elections for a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh in the Leninsky district of Bishkek.

Zhaparov instructed the Central Election Commission to organize the elections, and the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate funds for the elections and help the CEC.

Zhaparov had to schedule elections in the Leninsky district, since Zhanybek Abirov, who was a deputy from this district, voluntarily surrendered his mandate on March 27. On the same day, the CEC accepted his application.

Abirov decided to surrender his deputy mandate without waiting for the results of the commission of the Jogorku Kenesh, which was supposed to decide whether to hold him accountable for participating in the fight or not. He wrote that he made the decision to resign after analyzing the incident.

The fight itself involving Abirov was reported by several media outlets on 13 March. Later, presidential spokesman Erbol Sultanbaev said the fight had been reported to the president. Sultanbaev wrote that such behavior “does not meet the ethical standards of a civil servant of this rank.”
