Early summer is coming in the next few days, according to meteorologists.

In fact, in heat-sensitive areas, the mercury is predicted to hit even 35 degrees.

According to meteorologist Giorgos Tsatraphyllias, the subtropical jet stream (river of air in the upper atmosphere) brings considerable heat and duration, and significant amounts of African dust to our region.

In more detail, the circulation of the atmosphere in our region from Wednesday onwards favors the transport of dust and hot gas masses from the coasts of Africa to our region.

This heat wave cannot be ruled out to last until the middle of next week with the mercury soaring from Friday and then 10 to 12 degrees above the normal levels for the season.

The areas that this wave will initially affect are western and southern Greece, with the temperature slightly above 30 degrees and, from Saturday 18/5 onwards, the heat-sensitive areas with temperatures above 35 degrees. These are the following:

Crete (mainly),
Boeotia,
Fthiotida,
Achaia,
Ilia,
Argolis,
Dodecanese.
In Attica on the weekend we will exceed 30 degrees, while in Thessaloniki 27.

And the meteorologist, Thodoris Kolidas, emphasizes in his post on X that from Thursday 16/5 the mercury will exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

In particular, the director of the EMY notes, referring to the course of temperatures in the coming week: “In the following days, and specifically from Thursday onwards, the temperature will rise and fluctuate at values above normal levels.

This can be seen in the video where we show you the forecast temperatures at the 850 hpa level which give us the trend for maximum temperatures above 30°C in the West, Central and South.

As you will see locally we reach 31 to 32°C and maybe at the end of the week and a little more. But because there will be increased cloudiness in many areas, the mercury may “brake” and we will not see such high values in all areas”.
