At best, temperature rise could be limited to 2.5°C by the end of the century if all countries’ conditional commitments are respected.

Ten days before the opening of COP28, the global conference on climate change, which begins on November 30 in Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Unep, the organization responsible for the United Nations environment program, raises a new alarm about the foreseeable rise in temperature between now and the end of the century. At the rate of current greenhouse gas emissions, the planet is on the trajectory of warming of +2.9°C by 2100. It could be contained, at best, to 2.5°C by condition that all commitments made by countries between now and 2030 are followed to the letter, including the so-called “conditional” climate plans announced in particular by the less wealthy countries but will only be committed if they benefit from adequate financing.
