In Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, the various ceremonies organized were an opportunity for distinguished guests and Moroccans from around the world to salute the achievements of the Kingdom over the past 24 years and to reconnect with age-old Moroccan culture and traditions in the architectural, musical and culinary fields.

The receptions were also an opportunity to highlight the strength of the links that Morocco maintains with its African depth, as well as the determination of the Kingdom to strengthen its relations with East Africa, a region with immense potential and strong economic growth.

In Nairobi, Mr. Abderrazzak Laassel, ambassador of HM the King, highlighted the visionary leadership of the Sovereign which has helped create “a green path to the future,” by implementing an economic policy that is both forward-looking and responsible.

This dynamic of economic development involved the 12 regions of the Kingdom, including the Southern Provinces, which benefited from a vast development plan, with agreements and conventions for the realization of more than 1,000 projects with a total budget of 7.5 billion dollars, said the Moroccan diplomat.

Stressing Morocco’s determination to strengthen its ties with other African countries and pursue a fruitful South-South cooperation policy, Mr. Laassel recalled the regularization of the situation of more than 50,000 migrants established in Morocco between 2015 and 2017, which demonstrates this royal commitment that earned HM the King the title of Leader of the African Union on the issue of migration.

The ceremony held at the residence of the Moroccan Ambassador in Nairobi was marked by the participation of the Permanent Secretary of the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abraham Korir SingOei, who praised the role of Morocco in the Maghreb region, as well as the Moroccan-Kenyan partnership in the areas of agriculture, human capital development and technology.

In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a grand ceremony highlighted the richness of Morocco’s architectural heritage. Giant screens faithfully reproduced the traditional Moroccan architectural style, with walls pierced by monumental doors, immersing the audience in the atmosphere of the Kingdom’s centuries-old history.

One of the highlights of the evening was the performance of the Moroccan national anthem by a group of Tanzanian children, members of a local choir, dressed in outfits bearing the portrait of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. A moment with a strong symbolic charge that reflects the place that Morocco occupies in the hearts of Tanzanians.

More than 360 people attended the reception, which was enhanced by the presence of members of the Tanzanian government, including the Minister of Education Adolph Mkenda, guest of honour, the Deputy Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly Mussa Zungo and the Mufti of Tanzania, Sheikh Abubakar Zubeir.

In his speech, the Ambassador of HM the King to Tanzania, Mr. Zakaria El Goumiri, highlighted the clear and irreversible commitment and concrete initiatives of the Kingdom of Morocco in favor of the African continent, its development and prosperity in key sectors of the economy.

The Moroccan diplomat also reviewed the remarkable progress made by Morocco under the Visionary Leadership of His Majesty the King, highlighting the Sovereign’s unwavering dedication to achieving the well-being of the Moroccan people.

He also highlighted the momentum in Moroccan-Tanzanian relations, inspired by the Royal Visit of October 2016 to Dar es Salaam, stressing the political will demonstrated by the two countries to elevate their partnership to the highest level.

For his part, the Tanzanian Minister of Education welcomed the cordiality of the relations between Morocco and Tanzania, expressing the wish to see these ties further consolidated, particularly in the areas of economy, investment and education.

The ceremony was marked by a photo exhibition of HM the King and the main tourist sites of Morocco, in addition to the screening of promotional videos highlighting the cultural and economic potential of the Kingdom.

In Kigali, the Embassy of the Kingdom organized a brilliant reception attended by senior Rwandan officials, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Rwanda, representatives of international and regional organizations, as well as members of the Moroccan community established in this East African country.

In his speech, the ambassador of HM the King to Rwanda, Youssef Imani, highlighted the excellence of relations between Morocco and Rwanda, explaining that these ties are based on the principles of fraternity and mutual respect.

The visit made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Rwanda in October 2016 was a highlight in bilateral relations, he said, recalling that during this royal visit, 23 agreements were signed between the two countries to strengthen bilateral cooperation in different areas.

At a similar reception held in Burundi, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Moroccan Embassy in Bujumbura, Mohamed Slaoui, welcomed the friendship between Morocco and Burundi, as well as Gitega’s unconditional support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, through its support for the Autonomy Plan proposed by Morocco as a solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.

The Moroccan diplomat, in this sense, recalled the growing support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara expressed by many brother countries, noting that these diplomatic breakthroughs are the fruit of a “Moroccan diplomacy known and recognized for its wisdom, its measure and its humanism under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI”.

Mr. Slaoui also reaffirmed Morocco’s full support for the promising socio-economic program of Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye and the Moroccan government’s determination to support the president’s agenda, particularly in areas in which Morocco has acquired solid experience, such as food security.

The two countries are committed to promoting mutually beneficial cooperation based on the win-win principle, according to a 2021-2024 cooperation roadmap, “which is progressing at a very satisfactory pace,” he said.
