East Texas A&M Stuns Oklahoma in Historic Basketball Upset

East Texas A&M pulled off a stunning 68-64 season-opening road upset against Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center on Monday night, delivering one of the largest point-spread upsets in Division I basketball over the past three decades and prompting Sooners head coach Porter Moser to apologize after the loss.

The Lloyd Noble Center witnessed a historic defeat on Monday, November 2, 2026, as the East Texas A&M Lions shocked the Oklahoma Sooners as 28.5-point underdogs. The Lions, entering just their fifth season at the Division I level and picked to finish last in the 12-team Southland Conference preseason poll, secured their first win in the three-game series between the two teams.

According to ESPN Research, assessing point spreads across more than 100,000 Division I games over the past 30 years marks this result as the second-largest upset by spread in that span, trailing only Eastern Illinois’ victory over Iowa as a 30.5-point underdog in December 2022.

Bo Aldridge and East Texas A&M Control the Floor in Norman

East Texas A&M never trailed after taking a 13-12 lead with 12:59 remaining in the first half. Bo Aldridge led all scorers with 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting, while Mohamed Diakite and Alonzo Dodd chipped in 15 points each for the Lions.

Oklahoma struggled mightily out of the gate, shooting 29.6 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes. The Sooners committed 15 turnovers and missed 15 free throws over the course of the evening. Pop Isaacs led the Sooners with 15 points, while Derrion Reid added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Sooners played without Xzayvier Brown, who missed the contest because of a lower-body injury.

Porter Moser Faces Immediate Heat After the Historic Defeat

Porter Moser, who is in his sixth season with the Sooners, heard “Fire Moser” chants in the stands as the game concluded. He has been to only one NCAA tournament with Oklahoma.

The only thing I know to do is apologize to the fanbase, and get better.

Porter Moser, Oklahoma coach

Moser did not mince words during his postgame availability, taking full accountability for the team’s flat performance and failure to execute down the stretch when Oklahoma tied the game at 58 and 60 before yielding a late 6-0 run.

The things you do, in a game like this, in basketball, that get you beat, we did. We had 15 turnovers and 15 missed free throws.

Porter Moser, Oklahoma coach

Aldridge sealed the 68-64 victory by converting two free throws with three seconds remaining on the clock, capping off a night where East Texas A&M capitalized on Oklahoma’s hesitant play.

We played on our heels all night.

Porter Moser, Oklahoma coach

Moser added: They got us on our heels, and we stayed on our heels. … It was not good enough, and that’s on me.

Oklahoma Looks to Bounce Back Against Mississippi Valley State

The defeat snaps a long stretch of early-season home dominance for Oklahoma, which had won 22 of its previous 23 season openers and carried 30 consecutive nonconference home wins into the matchup. The lone prior opening-night blemish during that stretch came against Sam Houston by a 52-51 score in 2022-23.

It was East Texas A&M’s first win in the three-game series between the two teams. Oklahoma beat the Lions 84-56 on Nov. 21, 2024, and 87-59 on Dec. 1, 1970. Oklahoma will attempt to rebound from the opening loss when the team hosts Mississippi Valley State on Friday.
