External loanee debutant Yuan Chenghum scored early to power Eastern to a 2-1 victory over Supreme Shatin at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground on Saturday, October 31, in the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League.
Four consecutive league matches without a win had halted early progress.
Yuan Chenghum Sets the Tone for Eastern
The match turned in the eighth minute when Yuan Chenghum capitalized on a defensive clearance error.
For Yuan, the goal offered instant relief after a grueling recovery cycle. Following a severe ankle fracture and ligament damage sustained during a loan stint at Spanish club Ambrust U19, the midfielder endured multiple surgeries and a heavy psychological toll that made him question whether he would continue playing. Secured on loan from Kitchee to find regular playing time, his first official top-flight appearance since May 2024 culminated in the opening goal and the man-of-the-match award.

Supreme Shatin Answers Before the Break
Trailing early, Supreme Shatin tested Eastern’s defensive resolve. Gu Yuhu came close to equalizing during a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick, sending a close-range header against the crossbar before Lam Hok Hei fired the rebound wide.
Shatin’s persistence paid off in the 42nd minute when the visitors forced a penalty. James Scott stepped up to the spot and converted past Paul, sending the sides into halftime level at 1-1.
Resinu Restores Eastern’s Lead
The second half brought a flurry of near misses for both ends. Early in the period, Resinu curled an effort from the left side of the box that struck the crossbar. Charlie Scott then saw a 30-yard left-footed free kick blocked by Liu Weihan in the 62nd minute, and Daniel’s headed attempt from a left-wing cross was likewise gathered by Shatin’s goalkeeper six minutes later.
Eastern finally broke through for the winner in the 76th minute.

Late Push Falls Short
Shatin pressed aggressively for a late equalizer, but James Scott’s narrow-angle free kick from the left was smothered by Paul, and substitute Wang Zhizun saw an acrobatic overhead kick blocked by a defender.
Supreme Shatin club owner Wang Zhizun revealed that David Silva is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong on Tuesday, November 3.
